If I asked you to name the one thing Guernsey lacks, you’re almost certain to say “waterfalls” and I’d have to agree with you. Waterfalls are difficult things to have without rivers – sure, a few streams ‘cascade’ onto south coast beaches after heavy rainfall, but it’s always more trickle than torrent. As a wise old man probably never once said: “Victoria Falls, a Guernsey douit is not”. It is, however, possible to fake one with the careful use of a groundwater outfall, spewing water of questionable purity from a sea wall after a period of particularly heavy rain. This one in particular was tumbling onto the sand of Rocquaine Bay, with Fort Grey, the ‘Cup and Saucer’, visible in the background. Perhaps Timotei would be interested in this for a new seaweed shampoo range.
